Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wrote a letter to his baby girl, Max, on Tuesday. He wants her "to grow up in a world better than ours today." Zuckerberg wrote that he and his wife, Priscilla Chan, would donate 99% of his Facebook stock shares, worth about $45 billion, to do just that.

Even with the large donation, Zuckerberg will remain extremely rich. After the news came out, Zuckerberg was one of the most searched names on Google. His Facebook post received more than one million likes. Well-known people like Shakira and Arnold Schwarzenegger also gave the thumbs-up. Financial analysts say it is a good move to prevent the shares from being taxed when they are sold.

The shares will be donated to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative over Zuckerberg's lifetime. Zuckerberg and his wife, Chan, head the organization, of course.

  2. P2

    Public Reaction and Financial Questions

The pledge drew broad attention and praise, while analysts noted its possible tax benefits.

  3. P3

How the Donation Will Be Managed

The shares will be transferred over time to an initiative led by Zuckerberg and Chan.

Max

What did Mark Zuckerberg and Priscilla Chan pledge to do for their daughter Max?

    • A They pledged to give all of Zuckerberg's wealth directly to Max.
    • B They pledged to sell Facebook to build a better world for children.
    • C They pledged to donate 99% of Zuckerberg's Facebook shares, worth about $45 billion.
    • D They pledged to donate $45 billion in cash immediately.
    • E They pledged to create a new Facebook account for Max.
    • F They pledged to keep 99% of the shares for their family.

Why did financial analysts consider Zuckerberg's move a good one?

    • A It would make Zuckerberg the most searched person on Google.
    • B It would guarantee more than one million likes for his Facebook post.
    • C It would allow Zuckerberg to sell the shares without donating them.
    • D It could prevent the shares from being taxed when they are sold.
    • E It would increase the market value of Facebook shares to $45 billion.
    • F It would win public support from famous entertainers.

该项是对 analysts say it is a good move to prevent the shares from being taxed when they are sold 的近乎等义转述。It 对应 move, could 体现分析师的判断,prevent ... from being taxed 保留了核心因果,when they are sold 保留了关键时间条件。

  3. 第 3 段 定位词 shares will be donated

How are Zuckerberg's shares planned to be donated?

    • A They will be donated to Max immediately after her birth.
    • B They will be sold by Google before being given to charity.
    • C They will remain under Facebook's control for the rest of Zuckerberg's life.
    • D They will be divided equally between Chan and Zuckerberg.
    • E They will be donated to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative over Zuckerberg's lifetime.
    • F They will be used to reward celebrities who supported the donation.

该项准确复现了计划安排的两项核心:to the Chan Zuckerberg Initiative 说明受赠渠道,over Zuckerberg's lifetime 说明时间跨度。They 指代 shares, will be donated 与题干 planned to be donated 形成时态和语态对应。

    介词链摘取 时间最紧张时,盯住题干中 shares 和 planned to be donated 两个词组,直接扫描 第3段 的 will be donated 句。

典型的新闻 inverted pyramid structure 中的 lead,包含了 who、what、when、why 等关键 elements。

作为新闻的 opening paragraph,这个意群直接 establish 了主旨的所有 key components:donation amount、recipient (女儿 Max)、purpose (better world)。

它 provide supporting details, showing the news 的 ripple effect 和 multiple perspectives。

它 clarify the mechanism 和 governance structure, completing the information picture。

作为 closing paragraph,这个意群 address practical questions about implementation:how and through what vehicle。它 establish transparency 和 accountability by naming the receiving organization 和 its leadership, giving readers a concrete understanding of how the pledge 在主旨中提到的 'better world' goal 将被 operationalized。

MAIN IDEA ·

新闻报道的 inverted pyramid structure 决定了最 important 的 facts 会在开头 appear,第一段第一句往往就是 main point 的 concentrated expression,包含了 who、what、when 等关键 elements。

这一步是 confirmation mechanism,确保我们的 initial understanding 是 accurate and complete 的。

新闻报道的 main idea 必须 answer 'so what' question,即为什么这件事 newsworthy。

MAIN IDEA ·

我们把三条线索串联起来看:首先,第1段 的 context 告诉我们,Zuckerberg 要用 450 亿美元的 shares 去 make the world better,这种 altruistic purpose 暗示了 donate 是一种 giving behavior without expecting return。接着,第2段 的 donation 这个 noun 证实了我们的推测,而 donat- 这个 root 在 verb 和 noun 之间的 morphological connection 让我们确认 donate 就是 'to make a donation'。最后,第3段 的 passive structure 'be donated to' 彻底锁定了 donate 的 meaning:把 ownership transfer 给 recipient, without payment。

这说明 Initiative 在这里是一个 organizational entity with specific mission。再看 morphology,initiat- (开始、发起) + -ive (名词后缀) 告诉我们,initiative 的 core concept 是 'taking the first step to start something'。

    P1

文章开头directly引用了Zuckerberg给女儿Max写的信中的核心话语"to grow up in a world better than ours today",这个personal quote建立了emotional connection,让readers能够感受到这位tech billionaire作为father的genuine concern。

信号词 wrote said stated announced declared claimed mentioned noted emphasized expressed according to

Apple CEO Tim Cook declared in an internal memo, 'Innovation is not just about technology, but about changing lives,' as the company unveiled its new sustainability initiative."

    P1

文章precisely提到了two key figures:"99% of his Facebook stock shares"和"worth about $45 billion"。

信号词 % $ billion million worth valued at approximately about nearly over more than

    仿写: 在报道major事件时,strategic placement of numbers是crucial。 The company announced massive layoffs, affecting 15% of its workforce, approximately 12,000 employees across global offices."注意要combine percentage和absolute number来provide complete picture,并且use phrases like 'worth'、'valued at'、'amounting to'来establish monetary context。

    P2

第二段描述了donation announcement之后的public reaction:"one of the most searched names on Google"、"more than one million likes"、以及celebrities like Shakira and Arnold Schwarzenegger的positive response。这些factual observations provide measurable indicators of public interest和social impact,而不是subjective评价。

信号词 received was became rose increased showed demonstrated indicated recorded reported

Practice objective reporting by focusing on what can be verified和measured。避免evaluative language, instead用factual indicators来suggest significance。Template approach:[可验证的行动/结果] + [具体metric] + [observable response]。 Following the product launch, the company's stock price rose 12% within hours, and social media mentions increased five-fold, with industry leaders including Elon Musk acknowledging the innovation."关键是let the facts speak for themselves—用numbers、names、observable actions来create impression而不是用'amazing'或'impressive'这类subjective words。

Even with the large donation, Zuckerberg will remain extremely rich"以及financial analysts的perspective关于tax benefits。这个contextual information provide了important background,帮助readers understand这个donation的complete picture。它acknowledge了potential criticism(he'll still be wealthy)同时also present了practical financial considerations。这种background context prevent readers from forming incomplete judgments,展示了这个decision的complexity beyond simple generosity narrative。

Even with Despite Although While However Meanwhile In fact Actually It should be noted Analysts say Experts point out

仿写: 添加background时要strategic—identify哪些information是essential for full understanding但wasn't part of main announcement。 Template:"Despite/Even with [主要事件], [背景补充说明] + [additional perspective from experts/stakeholders]." Although the merger was celebrated publicly, industry insiders noted that both companies had been struggling with declining market share, and analysts suggested the move was driven more by survival than growth ambitions."

    P2

文章create了implicit contrast between Zuckerberg donating 99% of his wealth和the fact that"he will remain extremely rich"。 这种对比不仅emphasize了donation的generosity,也subtly address了potential skepticism about billionaire philanthropy。通过presenting both sides,文章maintain了balanced perspective while allowing readers to appreciate both the magnitude of giving和the remaining privilege。

Even with While Yet However But In contrast On the other hand Conversely Meanwhile Despite Although

Template:"[Statement A] + contrasting element + [Statement B that reveals tension/complexity]." The CEO announced record profits for the quarter, yet employee surveys revealed growing dissatisfaction with compensation and working conditions."或者use 'while' structure:"While the government celebrated unemployment rate decline, wage growth remained stagnant for the third consecutive year."关键是让contrast serve a purpose—revealing irony、showing complexity、或challenging simple narratives。

IMPLIED MEANING ·

    P2
Even with the large donation, Zuckerberg will remain extremely rich.

Even with Even though Despite In spite of Although While Whereas

这句话表面上在 state a fact,但实际上通过 'Even with' 和 'remain extremely rich' 的 juxtaposition,暗示 Zuckerberg 的 donation 虽然 amount 巨大,但对他个人的 financial status 并未造成 substantial impact。这种 implication 对 article theme 起到了 balancing perspective 的作用,it prevents readers from viewing 这个 donation 为 complete self-sacrifice,而是 presents a more nuanced reality:这是一个 wealthy individual 做出的 significant 但 not personally costly 的 gesture。

    P2
Financial analysts say it is a good move to prevent the shares from being taxed when they are sold.

Financial analysts say Experts point out Critics argue Observers note Analysts suggest Some say According to

通过引述 financial analysts 的 perspective,文章 introduces 一个 pragmatic interpretation:这个 donation 在 tax efficiency 方面是 'a good move'。 这种 revelation 对 main theme 产生 subtle complicating effect,它不是 directly criticizing 这个 donation,而是 adding a layer of complexity, suggesting 即使是 grand philanthropic gestures 也可能 intertwined with practical financial considerations。这个 implied meaning 呼应了前面 'remain extremely rich' 的 observation, together 它们构建了一个 more realistic picture:这是一个 both generous and strategically sound 的 decision, challenge 了 purely selfless narrative,让 readers 形成 more sophisticated understanding of modern mega-philanthropy 的 nature。

  • Zuckerberg

    P3
Zuckerberg and his wife, Chan, head the organization, of course.

语气标记词 of course naturally obviously predictably unsurprisingly needless to say as expected

The implication 是:虽然名义上是 donation,但 Zuckerberg and Chan 依然保持 complete control over 这 $45 billion 如何被 used。这个 subtle observation 对 article's theme 形成 important qualification:这不是一个 truly giving away wealth 的 act in the traditional sense,而更像是 transferring assets 到一个他们仍然 govern 的 entity。Combined with 前面关于 tax benefits 和 remaining rich 的 points,这个 'of course' creates a pattern of gentle skepticism,文章通过这些 cumulative implications 构建了一个 more complex narrative:这是一个 structurally different from traditional philanthropy 的 arrangement, where donors maintain unprecedented control,这个 implied critique 让 readers question whether this represents a genuine transfer of resources 还是 a new form of wealthy individuals maintaining power while gaining public credit and tax advantages。

AUTHOR ATTITUDE ·

作者在 news reporting 中选择 include 这些 overwhelmingly positive reactions,而 without mentioning 任何 criticism 或 negative voices,这 demonstrates 作者 aligns with 这些 positive views。

即使第二段提到 'Zuckerberg will remain extremely rich',这个 potentially controversial point 被 presented as neutral fact 而非 criticism。作者没有用这个 information to undermine the donation 的 significance,反而紧接着 emphasize the positive reactions。这种 handling of sensitive information 显示作者的 supportive stance。

  • better than P1

这个 comparative phrase 直接 indicates positive direction 和 improvement。作者引用 Zuckerberg 想让女儿 'grow up in a world better than ours today',without questioning 这个 noble intention, shows 作者 accepts and endorses 这个 positive vision。

同类词 improve enhance superior to progress advancement

  • more than one million likes P2

这个 quantified positive response 被作者 prominently featured, serves as evidence of widespread approval。通过 including specific numbers('one million'),作者 amplifies the positive reception 而不是 merely mentioning it casually。

同类词 overwhelming support massive approval widespread praise tremendous response popular acclaim

  • Well-known people P2

作者 specifically mentions 'well-known people' like Shakira and Schwarzenegger 的 approval,这是在 leverage celebrity endorsements to add credibility 和 positive weight。选择 highlight 这些 high-profile supporters 而非 ordinary critics shows selective positive emphasis。

同类词 well-known people celebrities famous figures prominent individuals influential voices

  • good move P2

Financial analysts 说这是 'good move' 这个 direct positive evaluation 被作者 included without challenge 或 qualification。作者 presents this expert opinion as straightforward fact, implicitly endorsing 这个 favorable assessment。

同类词 wise decision smart choice beneficial step positive development sound strategy

    第1段 开头就是 'Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg wrote a letter... on Tuesday',这是典型的 news lead,直接告诉读者 specific person (Zuckerberg)、specific action (wrote a letter)、specific time (Tuesday)。

第2段 报道了 aftermath:'After the news came out, Zuckerberg was one of the most searched names',还有 public reactions (Shakira and Schwarzenegger 点赞) 和 expert analysis (financial analysts 的评论)。

整篇文章用 third-person narrative (he, his wife, the organization),没有 'we should' 或 'it is important that' 这样的 persuasive expressions,也没有 'this refers to' 或 'the process involves' 这样的 explanatory language。第3段 只是 report additional detail ('The shares will be donated...'),保持 objective tone。

这篇文章完全符合 news report 的 three-part pattern:第1段 报道 Zuckerberg 的 donation announcement (event),第2段 补充 public reactions and expert analysis (factual follow-up),第3段 提供 additional logistical detail (background info),全文保持 third-person objective reporting。没有 thesis statement 要 argue,也没有 concept 要 explain,纯粹是 reporting what happened。
