Most of us have been in teams or organizations where we've had conflict with the people that we're working with around the ideas or decisions that we're discussing. Conflict is natural. We all bring different life and work experiences to the table. We all have different personality preferences and tendencies. We're not all going to have the same ideas on how to approach policies, programs or problems.

But too often we get caught in this place where conflict is perceived to be negative—something we want to avoid so that we can maintain the harmony of our workplace. This could be because some people want to avoid conflict at all costs, after all they still have to work together. But this kind of artificial harmony isn't the answer.

Productive conflict is a vital part of teams and organizations that want to push forward and do more. Without conflict, we're often stuck in this artificial harmony where people don't express potentially innovative ideas for fear that they may start conflict with others.

But if you're in a place where you have a basis of trust, conflict can be extremely productive. It can lead to increased innovation and greater trust on teams. It may be an uncomfortable process, but good leaders and healthy teams recognize that productive and healthy conflict is an important part of how they function.

  1. P1

    The Natural Origin of Conflict

Conflict naturally arises from differences among team members.

  2. P2

    The Problem with Artificial Harmony

Avoiding conflict for artificial harmony is a misguided response.

  3. P3

    Why Productive Conflict Matters

Productive conflict is essential because it enables innovation and progress.

  4. P4

Trust as the Foundation of Productive Conflict

Trust-based conflict strengthens innovation, trust, and team performance.

  1. 第 1 段 定位词 naturally occurs differ in

What does the author identify as the main reason why conflict naturally occurs in teams?

    • A Team members are unwilling to discuss policies and programs openly.
    • B Most workplace conflicts are caused by poorly designed programs.
    • C Team members differ in their experiences, personal tendencies, and ways of approaching issues.
    • D People in the same organization tend to share identical personality preferences.
    • E Conflict mainly results from leaders making unpopular decisions.
    • F Organizations should ensure that everyone uses the same approach to problems.

该项准确整合了 experiences、personality preferences 和 ideas on how to approach policies, programs or problems 三组并列信息。

What concern may cause some people to avoid conflict in the workplace?

    • A They believe that all conflict will inevitably improve workplace harmony.
    • B They lack innovative ideas that could be discussed with others.
    • C They have already developed a strong basis of trust.
    • D They worry that conflict may make it harder for colleagues to continue working together.
    • E They want workplace policies to remain unchanged.
    • F They consider disagreement unnecessary in every organization.

该项合理改写了 after all they still have to work together 所表达的现实顾虑。

  3. 第 3 段 定位词 potentially innovative ideas start conflict with others

Why may team members with potentially innovative ideas choose not to express them?

    • A They believe that innovative ideas are unnecessary for organizational progress.
    • B They have been ordered by leaders to remain silent during discussions.
    • C They think that everyone on the team already shares the same ideas.
    • D They expect artificial harmony to produce greater innovation automatically.
    • E They fear that expressing those ideas may start conflict with others.
    • F They no longer need to cooperate with the other team members.

该项忠实改写了 people don't express potentially innovative ideas for fear that they may start conflict with others。题干中的 choose not to express 对应 don't express,正确项则保留 fear、may 和 start conflict with others 所构成的原因链。

  4. 第 4 段 定位词 extremely productive basis of trust

Under what condition can conflict become extremely productive?

    • A All team members have identical personality preferences.
    • B The team has already achieved greater innovation.
    • C Employees avoid conflict at all costs.
    • D Leaders make every discussion comfortable for the team.
    • E The organization eliminates all disagreement before making decisions.
    • F Team members have an established basis of trust.

该项准确提取 if you have a basis of trust 这一条件,并用 established 表明这种基础在 productive conflict 发挥作用之前已经存在。

作者通过列举 different life experiences、work experiences、personality preferences 等 concrete factors 来 explain 为什么 people 会在 ideas 和 decisions 上产生 disagreement,从而为后续的 argument 奠定 foundation。

这个 paragraph 通过 "But too often" 这个 transitional phrase 引入了 problem statement:people perceive conflict as negative 并追求 artificial harmony。

作为 first supporting argument,这个意群的 critical function 是 identify the obstacle 阻碍 productive conflict。通过 contrast "perceived to be negative" 和 "artificial harmony",作者 establish 了 why current approaches fail。这个 problematization 为后续 advocate embracing conflict 提供了 logical necessity,因为只有先 expose 现有 mindset 的 flaws, readers 才会 receptive to alternative perspectives。

开头 "Productive conflict is a vital part" 直接 state 核心 claim,然后用 "Without conflict" 引出 consequence:teams 会 stuck in artificial harmony 且 stifle innovation。

作为 second supporting argument,这个意群 perform pivotal function of presenting the positive case。通过 emphasize "vital part" 和 link conflict to innovation,作者开始 construct 为什么 should embrace conflict 的 rationale。这个意群 directly addresses 主旨的 "should be embraced" component, providing substantive reason beyond merely avoiding artificial harmony。它 bridges 从 critique old mindset 到 advocate new approach 的 transition。

这个 concluding paragraph 通过 "But if you're in a place" 引入 conditional framework, specify 了 productive conflict 的 prerequisite:basis of trust。作者进一步 elaborate conflict 的 positive outcomes(increased innovation, greater trust)并 acknowledge 其 uncomfortable nature。最重要的是,通过 mention "good leaders and healthy teams",作者 establish who should champion this approach,从而 complete 整个 argument by addressing implementation responsibility。

作为 conclusion,这个意群 serve multiple functions:first,它 qualify 前面的 argument by introducing "basis of trust" 这个 important condition,避免 oversimplification;second,它通过 mention leaders 和 healthy teams 来 extend argument 到 implementation level,回答 "who should act" 的 question;third,通过 "recognize that productive and healthy conflict is an important part of how they function" 这个 summary statement,它 synthesize 整个 essay 的 key message,将 conflict 从 problem reframe 为 functional necessity。

第二段以 But 开头,这是 transition signal,表明要 introduce a contrasting view。这里指出 conflict is perceived to be negative 和 artificial harmony 的问题,这正是作者要 argue against 的 viewpoint

Productive conflict is a vital part,这是 direct positive assertion,与第二段的 negative perception 形成对比。Vital, push forward, innovative 等 positive evaluative language 表明这是作者的 main stance

最后一段再次强调 productive and healthy conflict is important,并补充了 condition(basis of trust)和 benefits(innovation, greater trust)。Good leaders and healthy teams 的提及表明这是 desirable practice

整合各段的 key information:conflict is natural(背景)→ wrongly perceived as negative(问题)→ productive conflict is vital(解决方案)→ leads to innovation(结果)。

MAIN IDEA ·

Conflict in teams is natural and should be embraced rather than avoided. While many perceive conflict negatively and seek artificial harmony, productive conflict built on trust is essential for innovation, progress, and stronger team dynamics in healthy organizations.

没有这个 part, teams 就会 stuck in artificial harmony,无法 push forward。

从 behavioral chain,我们看到 perception 会 lead to actions。

信号词 but however in contrast on the other hand while whereas unlike conversely instead rather than yet although though

仿写: 当你想要 advocate for 某个观点时,先 identify 一个 common but flawed alternative approach。比如你要论证 'taking risks is essential',可以先 describe 那种 playing it safe 的 mentality 及其 limitations,然后 present risk-taking 的 benefits。 模版:'Many believe that [错误做法] will lead to [表面好处], but this approach actually results in [负面结果]. In contrast, [正确做法], though [可能的顾虑], ultimately brings [实质好处] and enables [更深层价值].'

    P2 P3

第二段中作者建立了一个清晰的 causal chain:'some people want to avoid conflict' (cause) → 'artificial harmony' (consequence) → 'isn't the answer' (negative evaluation)。 第三段进一步 extend 这个逻辑:'without conflict' (cause) → 'stuck in artificial harmony' → 'people don't express innovative ideas' (consequence)。

信号词 so that because since as a result therefore thus consequently this leads to results in causes due to for this reason this is why

仿写: 构建因果论证时,要 make the causal link explicit 且 logical。先 identify 一个 action 或 condition,然后 trace its direct consequences,最后可以 extend to secondary effects。避免 oversimplification——acknowledge 如果有 intermediate steps 的话要 show them。 This leads to [进一步后果], because [解释机制]. As a result, [最终影响], which demonstrates why [回扣论点].'

    P1

第一段中,作者用了三个 parallel 'We all' structures:'We all bring different...', 'We all have different...', 'We're not all going to have...'。 通过这个 parallelism,作者 drive home the point that differences 不是 exception 而是 norm,这为后面论证 conflict is natural 奠定了 solid foundation。

仿写: 运用排比时,pick a grammatical pattern 然后 repeat it with variations in content。通常三个 parallel items 最有 impact(rhetorical rule of three)。确保每个 item 的 structure matches(同样的 subject, verb form, phrase type),但 content 要 progressive 或 complementary。 [Subject] [verb] [object/complement], [same subject] [same verb form] [different object/complement], [same subject] [same verb form] [yet another object/complement].' Innovation requires courage, innovation demands persistence, innovation rewards those who embrace uncertainty.'

    P4

第四段提到 'if you're in a place where you have a basis of trust, conflict can be extremely productive. It can lead to increased innovation and greater trust'。这里 'increased innovation and greater trust' 是 concrete examples 来说明 productive conflict 的 tangible benefits。虽然不是 detailed case study,但这些 specific outcomes serve as examples 来 illustrate the abstract concept of 'productive conflict'。这让 argument 从 theoretical 变得 practical,给读者 concrete things to imagine, strengthen the persuasiveness。

信号词 for example for instance such as like including namely specifically in particular to illustrate consider take as evidenced by

仿写: 使用举例时,choose examples that are specific enough to be convincing 但又 representative enough to support your general point。可以用 real-world cases, hypothetical scenarios, 或 concrete outcomes。 [General claim]. For instance, [specific example]. This demonstrates that [link back to claim].' [Claim], as evidenced by [example], which shows [interpretation].'

IMPLIED MEANING ·

    P2
But too often we get caught in this place where conflict is perceived to be negative—something we want to avoid so that we can maintain the harmony of our workplace.

频率副词类 too often frequently commonly typically usually tend to repeatedly

作者用 too often 暗示 perceiving conflict as negative 是一个 problematic 且 prevalent 的 misunderstanding。这个 implication 为文章的 central argument 奠定基础:conflict 其实是 productive 的,shouldn't be avoided。这种 criticism of common practice 的写法 serve 了 persuasive purpose,让 readers 开始 question 他们原有的 assumptions about conflict

    P2
But this kind of artificial harmony isn't the answer.

    P3
Without conflict, we're often stuck in this artificial harmony where people don't express potentially innovative ideas for fear that they may start conflict with others.

消极状态词类 stuck trapped stagnant static immobile paralyzed frozen

Stuck 这个词 implies 没有 conflict 的 organizations 处于一种 paralyzed state, unable to innovate or progress。 这种 negative consequence 的 implication make 作者的 position more persuasive by showing what's at stake

    P4
But if you're in a place where you have a basis of trust, conflict can be extremely productive.

条件转折类 but if however if yet if provided that as long as on condition that given that

But if 引导的这个 condition implicitly acknowledges 冲突不是 automatically positive 的,trust 是使 conflict productive 的 necessary foundation。这个 implication 让作者的 argument more credible 和 realistic,因为它 show 作者 understand 冲突需要 proper context。同时这也 reinforce 文章的 sophisticated view:不是 all conflict is good,而是 the right kind of conflict in the right environment is valuable,这使得整个 thesis 更加 nuanced and convincing

    P4
It may be an uncomfortable process, but good leaders and healthy teams recognize that productive and healthy conflict is an important part of how they function.

让步转折类 may be uncomfortable... but may be... but although... still while... nevertheless even though... yet despite... however granted... but

这个 implication serve 了 persuasive purpose:它在 tell readers 如果你 avoid conflict because it's uncomfortable,你可能 lack 成为 good leader 或 healthy team 的 maturity。这种 subtle challenge 加强了文章的 call to action, encourage readers embrace productive conflict

AUTHOR ATTITUDE ·

议论文的 first paragraph 往往会 establish the topic 并隐含 author's stance。

议论文中的 But、However、Yet 等 adversative conjunctions 标志着 author's true position 的 emergence。

Vital、productive、innovative 都是 high-value terms,表明作者不仅 accept conflict,而且认为它是 essential for progress。

议论文的 concluding paragraphs 通常包含 author's most explicit endorsement。这里作者不仅重申 conflict 的 benefits,还用 good leaders 和 healthy teams 进行 normative framing,将 embracing conflict 与 positive organizational identity 关联,这是 strongest form of support,表明作者的 attitude 是 actively advocating 而非 merely accepting。

这篇文章不是简单地 describe conflict,而是在 argue for a position。通过 problematizing current practice(avoiding conflict)、offering solution(embrace productive conflict),并用 normative language 和 positive outcomes 来 support it,作者展现的是 clear advocacy,属于 积极支持 category。

  • natural P1

它 removes the negative stigma 通常 associated with conflict,为后续 argument 奠定基础。

  • too often P2

Too often 是一个 frequency adverb with negative connotation,表达作者对 current situation 的 disapproval。在议论文中,它 signals that author believes something happens more than it should,即 there's a problem that needs addressing。

  • artificial harmony P2

Artificial 是一个 strongly negative qualifier in contexts about human relationships and organizational culture。它implies something is fake, not genuine, and therefore undesirable。

  • vital P3

这里作者说 productive conflict is vital part,直接明确地 advocate for it,表达 strong supportive attitude,没有任何 hedging 或 qualification。

同类词 essential crucial critical indispensable necessary

  • push forward P3

Push forward 是一个 dynamic, goal-oriented phrase with positive connotation,表达 movement toward desirable outcomes。 这种 semantic linking 揭示 author's view that conflict serves positive function。

同类词 move ahead progress advance grow develop

  • innovative P3

Innovative 是现代 organizational discourse 中的 high-value term, universally perceived as desirable。作者说 without conflict people don't express innovative ideas,这用 negation + desirable outcome 的结构来 emphasize conflict's importance。在议论文中,这种 framing 方式很 persuasive,因为它 links author's position to widely shared value(innovation)。

同类词 creative novel original breakthrough groundbreaking

  • extremely productive P4

当作者说 conflict can be extremely productive,这不仅是 positive evaluation,而且是 strong one。 这种 emphatic language 表明作者不只是 mildly support,而是 strongly advocate for productive conflict。

同类词 extremely highly remarkably exceptionally tremendously

  • good leaders P4

Good leaders 是一个 normative phrase,它 establishes a standard and associates author's position with that standard。在议论文中,这是 prescriptive rhetoric——作者在说'if you want to be a good leader, you should embrace conflict'。

同类词 good effective successful excellent skilled

在这篇文章里,我们能看到 author 使用了大量 value judgment 的表达,比如 'artificial harmony isn't the answer'、'productive conflict is a vital part'。

然后 author 通过 contrast (artificial harmony vs productive conflict) 和 causal reasoning (conflict leads to innovation) 来 develop 这个 argument。说明文会 focus on explaining 'what' 和 'how',而不是 arguing 'why we should';新闻报道则是 chronological 或 inverted pyramid structure,而不是 thesis-driven。

这篇文章明显在 challenge 一个 common perception (conflict is negative) 并 advocate for 一个 alternative view (conflict can be productive)。Author 使用 'we should recognize'、'teams need to' 这样的 language 来 encourage readers 采纳新的 mindset。

这篇 conflict 文章完美 demonstrate 了这些 characteristics:strong opinions about conflict being beneficial、clear argumentation structure from problem to solution、以及 persuading readers 重新 evaluate workplace conflict。
