Half of your brain stays alert and prepared for danger when you sleep in a new place, a study has revealed. This phenomenon is often referred to as the "first-night-effect". Researchers from Brown University found that a network in the left hemisphere of the brain "remained more active" than the network in the right side of the brain. Playing sounds into the right ears (stimulating the left hemisphere) of volunteers was more likely to wake them up than if the noises were played into their left ear.

It was specifically observed that the left side of the brain was more active during deep sleep. When the researchers repeated the laboratory experiment on the second and third nights they found the left hemisphere could not be stimulated in the same way during deep sleep. The researchers explained that the study demonstrated when we are in a novel environment the brain partly remains alert so that humans can defend themselves against any potential danger.

The researchers believe this is the first time that the "first-night-effect" of different brain states has been identified in humans. It isn't, however, the first time it has ever been seen. Some animal species also display this phenomenon. For example, dolphins, as well as other marine animals, shut down one hemisphere of the brain when they go to sleep. A previous study noted that dolphins always consciously control their breathing. Without keeping the brain active while sleeping, they would probably drown. But, as the human study suggests, another reason for dolphins keeping their eyes open during sleep is that they can look out for predators while asleep. It also keeps their physiological processes working.

3 段逐段主旨与解读

逐段拆解2017年6月英语六级真题第2套 的这篇原文——每段给出英文段落主旨、段落标题与中文解读,并提炼一条「这段为什么这样读」的具体方法。

  1. P1

Discovery of the First-Night Effect in Human Brain

A study reveals the first-night effect, where the left brain hemisphere stays more alert than the right when sleeping in new places, as demonstrated by sound stimulation experiments.

这个opening paragraph在文章里扮演foundation-laying的role。它不仅introduces核心phenomenon,还establishes了scientific credibility through具体的brain hemisphere data和experimental evidence。对于文章主旨中提到的partially alert brain in unfamiliar environments,这个段落provides了initial empirical basis。它sets up后续段落的deep dive into mechanism和cross-species comparison。作为exposition的起点,它successfully captures reader attention while establishing scholarly tone,为整篇文章的argumentative structure奠定了solid groundwork。

    现象-机制-证据三层定位法
  2. P2

    Temporal Pattern and Evolutionary Explanation

Further research shows the left hemisphere's heightened activity specifically occurs during deep sleep on the first night only, suggesting an evolutionary adaptation for detecting danger in unfamiliar environments.

这个段落在文章中serves as explanatory deepening的role。它takes文章主旨中的partially alert concept, adds temporal specificity (first night only)和sleep stage precision (deep sleep)。通过introduce evolutionary rationale - detecting potential threats - 它connects neurological observation到adaptive function。这个from brain activity to survival advantage的link是crucial because它transforms isolated finding into biologically meaningful pattern。对于整体narrative,这个段落bridges initial discovery和后续的cross-species comparison, showing human first-night effect不是random quirk而是有evolutionary grounding的adaptive mechanism。

    细节深化与功能阐释结合
  3. P3

Cross-Species Comparison and Multiple Adaptive Functions

While this is the first identification of the first-night effect in humans, similar unihemispheric sleep patterns exist in dolphins and other marine animals, serving dual functions of maintaining breathing control and enabling predator vigilance.

这个concluding paragraph扮演contextualizing和validating的role。它takes文章主旨中的human brain's partial alertness phenomenon, places it within broader evolutionary and cross-species context。通过introduce dolphin example,段落shows人类first-night effect不是unique aberration而是在某些species里已highly developed的adaptive strategy。Dual functions explanation - breathing和vigilance - 特别strengthen文章主旨中提到的detecting potential threats这个purpose。这个段落essentially argues: if marine animals evolved such pronounced vigilance mechanisms, human's milder first-night effect makes perfect evolutionary sense。它provides biological credibility和comparative depth to前面的human-specific findings, completing the article's argumentative arc from discovery to explanation to biological validation。

针对2017年6月英语六级真题第2套这篇原文,每段配 1 道细节题( 1 个正确项 + 5 个干扰项 ,由懒笔记精读引擎基于本段命制,非试卷原题)。 选项默认中性;点「显示答案与解析」展开正确项、解析与最快解法,现代浏览器会同步高亮正确选项。

  1. 第 1 段 定位词 experimental finding more alert new sleeping environment

Which experimental finding supported the claim that one side of the brain remains more alert in a new sleeping environment?

    • A The right hemisphere remained more active than the left hemisphere throughout the first night.
    • B Volunteers woke up more easily when sounds were played into their left ears.
    • C Sounds played into volunteers' right ears were more likely to wake them than sounds played into their left ears.
    • D The two hemispheres showed identical responses to sounds during sleep.
    • E Researchers found that unfamiliar places prevented volunteers from entering sleep.
    • F Sounds delivered to both ears caused the same level of brain activity.
    显示答案与解析 收起答案与解析

    正确答案:C

该项完整保留了原文的实验对比:sounds 是操作刺激,right ears 与 left ears 是对照条件,more likely to wake 是可观察结果。它通过耳朵与 hemisphere 的交叉刺激,间接证明 left hemisphere 的 network 更 active。障碍在于原文没有直接说“右耳更警觉”,而是要求考生理解 right ears stimulating the left hemisphere 这一括号信息,并把 wake 的差异还原为 alertness 的证据。

    比较结构验真 时间极紧时,不必先通读全部选项。抓题干中的 experimental finding 和 new sleeping environment,直接定位 第1段;随后在该段中只扫描表示实验结果的比较结构,如 more likely 与 than。将正确项视为唯一能逐词映射“条件—反应—比较方向”的选项,其余选项只要出现方向倒置、范围夸大或结果偷换即可立即排除。

  2. 第 2 段 定位词 second and third nights repeated experiment during deep sleep

What did the repeated experiment on the second and third nights reveal about the left hemisphere during deep sleep?

    • A The left hemisphere became increasingly active on each successive night.
    • B The right hemisphere could not be stimulated during deep sleep.
    • C Both hemispheres remained equally alert throughout the second and third nights.
    • D The left hemisphere could no longer be stimulated in the same way during deep sleep.
    • E Deep sleep disappeared after volunteers spent one night in the laboratory.
    • F The researchers stopped the experiment because the first-night-effect was too strong.
    显示答案与解析 收起答案与解析

    正确答案:D

该项准确复述 repeated experiment 的核心发现:研究者在 second and third nights 发现 left hemisphere could not be stimulated in the same way during deep sleep。它没有额外推断脑区完全停止活动,也没有把“不能以同样方式刺激”夸大为“对所有声音均无反应”。障碍在于 could no longer 与 in the same way 描述的是相对于先前实验的变化,考生必须读出这种前后对照。

    三项时间筛查 最快路径是把 second and third nights 当作文章中的唯一时间坐标,直接跳至 第2段,再向后读取含 repeated 的结果句。无需先理解所有机制,只需用“对象是否为 left hemisphere、状态是否为 deep sleep、变化是否相对先前不同”三项筛查。三项同时成立者即正确项,任何一项被换成 right、all sleep 或持续增强的选项立刻淘汰。

  3. 第 3 段 定位词 dolphins keep part of their brain active while sleeping

Why do dolphins need to keep part of their brain active while sleeping?

    • A They need to hear sounds from both sides of the water while asleep.
    • B They have to remain fully awake throughout the night.
    • C They use both hemispheres to identify unfamiliar sleeping places.
    • D They can prevent all predators from approaching them during sleep.
    • E They must consciously control their breathing to avoid drowning.
    • F They need to make the left hemisphere more active than the right hemisphere.
    显示答案与解析 收起答案与解析

    正确答案:E

原文先引用 previous study,指出 dolphins always consciously control their breathing,随后用 Without keeping the brain active while sleeping, they would probably drown

这个意群 introduces 了 first-night effect 这个 phenomenon,通过 Brown University 的 research 揭示了在 new place 睡觉时,left hemisphere 会 remain more active 来 stay alert,并用 sound stimulation experiment 作为 evidence 来 demonstrate 这个效应的 existence。

作为 exposition 的 opening part,这个意群 establishes 了文章的 central topic,通过 presenting 具体的 research findings 和 experimental data 来 introduce 主旨中提到的 first-night effect,为后续的 deeper explanation 奠定 foundation。

    现象发现与实验证据
  2. 首夜效应的深层机制

这个意群 zooms into 更 specific 的 observation, focus 在 deep sleep 阶段的 left hemisphere activity,通过 repeated experiments 来 confirm 这个 pattern 只在 first night 出现,最后 explains 这个 mechanism 背后的 evolutionary reason—humans 需要 defend against potential danger。

这个意群在 exposition 中 serves 了 elaboration function,它不仅 provides more detailed observations about when and how 这个 effect 发生,还 reveals 了 underlying reason,让 readers 理解这不是 random phenomenon,而是有 biological and evolutionary basis 的 adaptive mechanism。

    机制深化与因果解释
  3. 跨物种视角的比较论证

这个意群 broadens the scope,指出 first-night effect 不是 human-specific,通过 dolphins 和 other marine animals 的 similar behavior 来 provide comparative evidence,并 further explains 这种 mechanism 的 multiple functions—既有 predator detection 也有 physiological process maintenance 的 purpose。

Research reveals that when sleeping in unfamiliar environments, the left hemisphere of the human brain remains partially alert to detect potential threats, a phenomenon called the 'first-night effect' that is also observed in certain marine animals like dolphins.

综合来看,stimulate 表示 activate, arouse, or trigger a response。

    同位解释+因果效应+名词互证
  • predator 捕食者,掠食动物

我们来 connect 这些 threads。首先,dolphins 的 behavior (keep eyes open, look out for) 明确指向 predators 是需要 vigilance (警惕) 的对象。

接着,跨段落的 coreferential usage (共指用法) 显示 alert 与 active 描述同一 brain state,这 narrows down (缩小) 了词义的 semantic field (语义场)。最后,purpose clause 揭示了 alert 的 functional dimension (功能维度):它是为了 rapid threat response (快速威胁应对)。综合这些 clues, alert 表示一种高度警觉、随时准备应对的状态。

RHETORIC · 修辞手法

6 处修辞手法与仿写

每处修辞给出它在本文的具体用法、同类信号词清单与一份可直接套用的 写作仿写建议——读完能认,也能写。

  • 列数字

    P1

文章开篇直接用 "Half of your brain" 这个precise数字来quantify大脑的alert状态,让abstract的神经科学现象变得concrete。这个50%的numerical data不仅增强了scientific credibility,更重要的是它instantly conveys了一个striking fact:即使在sleep中,我们的brain也没有completely shut down。这个quantification直接支撑了文章的core thesis——first-night effect的existence和它的biological significance。

信号词 Half 50% a quarter three-quarters twice as double triple nearly 80% approximately roughly about over more than less than up to

仿写: 当你需要describe一个abstract concept或phenomenon时,问自己:能否用a specific percentage、ratio或quantity来express它?比如不说"很多人",而是说"约60%的participants"。建议的template是:【数字+对象+行为/状态】,例如:"Nearly 80% of students demonstrate improved performance when..."或"Three-quarters of the tested subjects showed..."。记住,数字要accurate且relevant,不能为了numerical而numerical。

  • 举例子

    P3

第三段用dolphins作为concrete example来illustrate一个broader biological principle。通过detailed description of dolphin sleep behavior——"shut down one hemisphere"、"consciously control their breathing"、"keep their eyes open"——文章把human的first-night effect放入了a larger evolutionary context。这个marine animal example不仅demonstrates这不是human-specific phenomenon,更importantly,它reveals了这种brain mechanism的survival value。Dolphin这个familiar yet fascinating creature让abstract的neuroscience变得relatable和memorable。

信号词 For example For instance such as like including Take...as an example Consider A case in point To illustrate As illustrated by One example is ...is a good example of

仿写: 选择examples时要考虑:它是否widely known enough让readers能relate,同时又sufficiently interesting来maintain attention?建议用"For example"、"For instance"、"Take...as an example"这类explicit markers来introduce your case。Structure可以是:【General statement → Example marker → Specific case → Explanation of relevance】。比如:"Many species exhibit remarkable adaptations. For instance, the arctic fox changes its fur color seasonally, which demonstrates how..."记住,example之后要explicitly link back to你的main point。

  • 作比较

    P1 P2

文章在multiple layers上employ comparison。首先是left hemisphere vs. right hemisphere的contrast,通过comparing their activity levels during sleep来reveal asymmetry。其次是first night vs. subsequent nights的temporal comparison, showing how brain response changes。再者是human brain behavior与dolphin brain behavior的cross-species comparison。这些layered comparisons不仅clarify differences,更crucially地highlight了first-night effect的distinctive features和它作为adaptive mechanism的significance。Through these contrasts, readers能clearly see what makes初次睡眠environment special。

信号词 than more...than while whereas in contrast compared to unlike similarly likewise in comparison on the other hand however but rather than as opposed to

仿写: 建立comparison时,首先identify你想contrast的specific aspects。使用comparative structures like "more...than"、"while"、"whereas"、"in contrast"、"unlike"等。Template可以是:【A exhibits X, while B shows Y】或【Compared to A, B demonstrates...】。比如:"While traditional methods require manual input, automated systems process data instantaneously."确保你的comparison有clear purpose——不是为compare而compare,而是to illuminate某个important distinction或similarity that supports your explanation。

  • 下定义

    P1

文章第一句就introduce了core concept后,immediately提供definition:"This phenomenon is often referred to as the 'first-night-effect'."虽然brief,但这个naming和labeling establishes了整篇文章的focus。通过给这个brain behavior pattern a specific term,作者creates a conceptual anchor that subsequent paragraphs can reference和elaborate。这个definitional move不仅organizes the content,也signals to readers这是a recognized scientific phenomenon worth understanding,不是random observation。

信号词 referred to as is called is known as is defined as refers to means is defined as termed labeled as described as can be understood as is the term for

仿写: 当introducing a key concept时,consider explicitly defining it especially if it's technical或potentially unfamiliar。可以use patterns like:【This phenomenon/process/concept is known as...】、【X refers to...】、【X is defined as...】、【What we call X is...】。比如:"This adaptive response, known as hormesis, describes how..."或"Photosynthesis refers to the process by which..."。Definition应该concise yet complete, capture essential meaning without overwhelming details。可以先give the term,然后用一两句clarify its core meaning。

  • 作诠释

    P2 P3

第二段的"The researchers explained that the study demonstrated when we are in a novel environment the brain partly remains alert so that humans can defend themselves against any potential danger"是典型的interpretative explanation。作者不仅report研究findings,还explain the underlying reason——the "why" behind the observation。这个interpretation connects observable brain activity到evolutionary purpose(defense against danger),providing deeper understanding of mechanism's function。类似地,第三段关于dolphins keeping eyes open的multiple reasons(watching for predators、maintaining physiological processes)也是layered interpretation, revealing complexity beyond surface description。

信号词 so that explained that demonstrated suggests that indicates implies means that shows that reveals the reason is this is because due to as a result of therefore

仿写: 进行interpretation时,move beyond simply stating facts——explain their significance或underlying logic。Use phrases like:【This suggests that...】、【The reason for this is...】、【This demonstrates...】、【This indicates...】、【This can be attributed to...】。Template:【Observation + Interpretive marker + Explanatory statement】。例如:"The population declined sharply. This suggests that environmental changes exceeded the species' adaptive capacity."或"Cells respond differently to the treatment, which indicates varying levels of receptor sensitivity."确保你的interpretation logically follows from presented evidence。

  • 引资料

    P1 P2 P3

文章multiple times引用research sources来establish credibility。"Researchers from Brown University found"、"The researchers explained"、"The researchers believe"、"A previous study noted"——这些explicit references to academic sources和research findings为文章的claims提供authoritative backing。特别是提到Brown University这个specific institution和"previous study"这类prior research, creates a sense of这些discoveries是based on rigorous scientific investigation,不是speculation。这种引资料strategy是说明文establish trustworthiness的critical technique,尤其when discussing scientific或technical topics。

信号词 Researchers from A study Research shows According to Studies indicate Experts suggest Scientists found found that noted that A previous study reported that discovered that revealed that demonstrated that

仿写: 引用资料时,clearly indicate source和nature of evidence。Use attribution phrases like:【According to researchers from...】、【Studies have shown that...】、【Research indicates...】、【Experts suggest...】、【A study published in X found...】。Template:【Source identifier + Finding/claim】。例如:"Scientists at MIT discovered that..."或"According to a 2024 study in Nature, the mechanism..."。Even when不providing full citation, indicating that information comes from research或expert consensus adds weight。Remember to integrate quotations或findings smoothly into your explanation,不要让它们feel disconnected。

IMPLIED MEANING · 言外之意

8 处话里有话

作者没有明说、但靠信号词传递出来的态度与暗示——每处给出原文片段、信号词类型与解读。

  • 首夜效应的普遍性暗示

    P1
This phenomenon is often referred to as the "first-night-effect".

    P1
a network in the left hemisphere of the brain "remained more active" than the network in the right side of the brain

对比强调类 remained more active more...than less...than remained continued to still yet

这个 comparison between left and right hemispheres 的言外之意是大脑在 sleep 时并非 uniformly inactive,而是有 selective vigilance。作者通过 emphasize left hemisphere remained more active 来 implicitly suggest 这是一个 adaptive mechanism。对于主旨的 contribution 是:这不只是 describe a difference,而是在 reveal 为什么我们在 new environment 会 sleep poorly,因为大脑在 maintaining a protective watch。这个 implication 为后面 explain the evolutionary advantage 铺垫了 foundation。

  • 研究方法的可靠性暗示

    P2
It was specifically observed that the left side of the brain was more active during deep sleep.

精确限定类 specifically observed specifically precisely particularly exactly explicitly clearly

specifically observed 的言外之意是研究团队用了 targeted methodology 来 isolate 这个 phenomenon,不是 accidental discovery。这对主旨的 contribution 是 establish 研究的 scientific rigor,让读者 trust 后面的 evolutionary explanation。如果只是说 observed 而没有 specifically, the finding 会显得 less deliberate。这个 precision marker 在 subtly communicate 研究的 methodological soundness,为 broader claim about human adaptive mechanisms 提供了 solid empirical foundation。

  • 重复实验的反证暗示

    P2
when the researchers repeated the laboratory experiment on the second and third nights they found the left hemisphere could not be stimulated in the same way during deep sleep

否定对比类 could not be stimulated in the same way could not did not no longer ceased to failed to was unable to

could not be stimulated in the same way 这个 negative finding 的言外之意是首夜效应是 novelty-dependent 的,不是大脑的 permanent asymmetry。这个 implication 极其重要,因为它 confirms 这是一个 adaptive response to unfamiliar environments,而不是 structural abnormality。对于主旨的 contribution:这个 negative contrast 直接 supports the protective function hypothesis,因为当 environment becomes familiar,大脑就 stops maintaining extra vigilance。这是 argument logic 的 turning point,从 describing phenomenon 到 explaining its adaptive purpose。

  • 研究突破性的强调暗示

    P3
The researchers believe this is the first time that the "first-night-effect" of different brain states has been identified in humans.

序数词强调类 the first time for the first time the only unprecedented novel initial pioneering

the first time 这个表达的言外之意是这个研究 fills a gap in human neuroscience,把一个 previously observed 但 not scientifically documented 的 phenomenon bring into scientific domain。对主旨的 value:这 establishes 研究的 academic contribution,说明我们对 human sleep 的 understanding 有了 new dimension。但注意作者 immediately 用 however 引出 animal precedents,这个 self-qualification 的言外之意是研究虽然 novel for humans,但 consistent with broader biological patterns,这 strengthens rather than weakens the argument through evolutionary continuity。

  • 转折限定的谦逊暗示

    P3
It isn't, however, the first time it has ever been seen.

转折类 however but yet nonetheless nevertheless although though

however 引出的内容言外之意是:虽然这是 first human study,但 phenomenon 本身在 nature 中 already exists,这个 connection to animal behaviors 实际上 validates 而不是 undermines 研究的 significance。对主旨的作用是 provide evolutionary context, suggesting 首夜效应不是 human quirk 而是 conserved adaptive mechanism across species。这个 strategic contrast 把研究从 isolated human finding 提升到 broader biological principle 的层面,这 strengthens the argument that this vigilance mechanism 是 evolutionarily advantageous。

  • 举例论证的类比暗示

    P3
For example, dolphins, as well as other marine animals, shut down one hemisphere of the brain when they go to sleep.

举例说明类 For example for example for instance such as like including namely

dolphins example 的言外之意是首夜效应不仅 exists across species,而且在某些物种中 evolutionarily intensified to extreme form。dolphins 必须 keep hemisphere active 否则会 drown,这个 life-or-death scenario 强有力地 demonstrates vigilance mechanism 的 evolutionary value。对主旨的 contribution:通过 showing an extreme but parallel case,作者在 argue 人类的 milder version 同样是 adaptive mechanism for survival。这个 cross-species comparison implicitly strengthens the evolutionary explanation, suggesting 首夜效应是 deeply rooted biological strategy rather than modern inconvenience。

  • 多重原因的深化暗示

    P3
But, as the human study suggests, another reason for dolphins keeping their eyes open during sleep is that they can look out for predators while asleep.

递进补充类 another reason another also additionally furthermore moreover in addition

another reason 的言外之意是 hemispheric asymmetry during sleep 不是 single-purpose mechanism,而是 serves multiple adaptive functions simultaneously。对主旨的 critical contribution:这 elevates 首夜效应从 simple vigilance response 到 multi-functional adaptive strategy。作者通过 showing dolphin example has both breathing control 和 predator watch functions, implicitly arguing 人类的首夜效应也可能 serve multiple purposes beyond just threat detection。这个 layered causation 的言外之意是 evolution 往往 produces mechanisms with multiple benefits,这 deepens 我们对现象的 understanding from simple cause-effect 到 complex adaptive system。

AUTHOR ATTITUDE · 作者态度

作者态度:客观中立

结论先行:本文作者态度为客观中立( objective and informative)。下面是按步骤还原的判断过程与文中的态度信号词。

  1. 识别研究引述句式 P1

说明文 expository writing 的核心特征就是 informing readers 而非 persuading them。Opening sentence 如果使用 'study revealed' 'researchers found' 这类 attribution phrases,就是在建立 objective tone,作者在做 information transmitter 而非 opinion holder。

  2. 扫描主观评价词缺失 P1 P2 P3

说明文作者如果保持 neutral stance,就会避免使用 value-laden words。这篇文章的 verb choices 全是 factual reporting 类的,如 'found' 'demonstrated' 'identified',这些词只传递 information existence 不传递 writer's judgment,证明作者在 maintaining objectivity。

  3. 识别多角度信息扩展 P3

客观的说明文作者会通过 providing context 和 drawing parallels 来帮助读者 understand the phenomenon fully。这里作者用 'isn't the first time' 引出 animal examples,用 'for example' 列举 dolphins,这种 contextualizing approach 说明作者的目的是 educating readers 而非 convincing them of a viewpoint。

  4. 三维特征综合验证 P1 P2 P3

说明文的 author attitude 判断需要综合 linguistic markers 和 structural features。这篇文章具备 objective exposition 的所有特征:research-based content, neutral vocabulary, attributed claims, 和 contextual expansion。这些要素共同构成了 objective and informative 的 authorial stance。

文中的态度信号词

  • revealed P1

'Revealed' 是典型的 neutral reporting verb,它只表示 information disclosure 不带 judgment。作者用这个词是在告诉读者 'this is what the study uncovered',而不是 'this is surprisingly good/bad'。这种 verb choice 把作者定位为 information relay 而非 opinion maker。

同类词 found observed demonstrated identified noted

  • researchers explained P2

'Researchers explained' 这个 attribution phrase 明确标注了 information source,作者在说 'this is their explanation, not mine'。这种 distancing strategy 是 objective writing 的核心技巧,作者通过 attributing claims to external sources 来 avoid personal stance。

同类词 scientists stated the study showed experts noted investigators found the team reported

  • for example P3

'For example' 这个 exemplification marker 表明作者在 providing illustrative cases 而非 making arguments。它引出 dolphins 的例子是为了 clarify and contextualize,不是为了 prove a point。这种 illustrative approach 是 informative writing 的特征。

30 秒判定这是一篇说明文

体裁决定读法与出题套路。以下判断步骤与标志词全部以本文为例,可直接迁移到其他英语六级 真题文章。

如何快速判断这是一篇说明文?

  1. 开头引入研究发现 P1

    说明文的 primary purpose 是 to inform and explain,第一段开门见山地 reveal 了 first-night-effect 这个 phenomenon,用 study 和 researchers 来 present findings,而不是 express opinions 或 report breaking news with time-sensitive elements。议论文会直接 state a claim 并准备 argue,新闻报道会强调 when、where 和 immediate events。

  2. 科研语言标记 P2

说明文依赖 objective data 和 empirical findings 来 support explanations,第二段用 'specifically observed'、'the researchers explained' 这类 precise scientific language 来 present evidence。议论文会用 'obviously'、'clearly'、'it is undeniable' 等 evaluative language 来 persuade readers。新闻报道会用 'sources say'、'officials confirmed' 等 attribution phrases 来 cite authorities。

  3. 拓展性类比实例 P3

说明文常用 comparative framework 来 deepen explanation,第三段引入 dolphins 和 other marine animals 作为 parallel examples 来 illustrate 相同的 phenomenon in nature。这种 extension 的 function 是 explanatory,不是 argumentative(议论文会用 examples 来 support a thesis)也不是 news-oriented(新闻报道聚焦 current events,不会 digress 到 animal comparisons unless directly relevant to the news event)。

  4. 解释性弧线结构 P1 P2 P3

整篇文章的 structural logic 是 layered explanation:从 introduce the first-night-effect 到 provide specific research evidence 再到 show parallel phenomenon in nature,没有 argumentative thesis 需要 defend,也没有 news event 需要 timely report。文章的 tone 始终是 neutral and informative,用 factual language 来 construct understanding,而不是 persuasive language 来 change minds 或 urgent language 来 update readers on current affairs。
