As is vividly depicted in the picture, a man is talking proudly to a woman, his eyes wide open, claiming that he reads about three hours every day and that his favorite book is Facebook. Simple as it is, the drawing conveys a thought-provoking message: for many people today, so-called reading has quietly been replaced by scrolling through social networking websites.

The implication behind this cartoon deserves our serious attention. On one hand, social platforms do bring us fragmented information, giving us the illusion that we are reading a great deal. On the other hand, such fragmented reading rarely leaves anything solid in our minds. Constant notifications keep shortening our attention span, so that few of us can sit down and finish a whole book. In this sense, what the man calls reading is far from genuine, in-depth reading.

In my view, social networking websites are a double-edged sword rather than a substitute for books. We should make use of them to gather information, yet consciously reserve time for serious reading that truly nourishes the mind. Only by striking such a balance can we enjoy the convenience of the digital age without losing the depth that classic books offer.

As is vividly depicted in the picture, a man is talking proudly ... Simple as it is, the drawing conveys a thought-provoking message 一句把画面翻译成寓意『so-called reading has ... been replaced by scrolling through social networking websites』,完成 outline 第 1 段『描述画面并点出寓意』的功能,把话题稳稳交给下文分析。

The implication behind this cartoon deserves our serious attention On one hand ... On the other hand ... Constant notifications keep shortening our attention span, so that ... 用因果句架给出可感后果;末句 what the man calls reading is far from genuine, in-depth reading 把话题回扣到阅读焦点,正是 outline 第 2 段所要的分析。

In my view, ... a double-edged sword rather than a substitute for books We should make use of them ..., yet consciously reserve time ... Only by striking such a balance can we ...

本题要求 write a short essay based on the picture below,并用一句话把焦点限定成 focus on the impact of social networking websites on reading——即围绕漫画谈『社交网站对阅读的影响』,而不是泛写社交网站的利弊或漫画之外的话题。

I love reading. I read about 3 hours a day. My favorite book is Facebook,图下还特意注明 Facebook is the name of a social networking website.。

My favorite book is Facebook

My favorite book is Facebook
分析寓意背后的影响 承接寓意,扣住 focus on the impact of social networking websites on reading 分析社交网站如何用碎片信息制造『读了很多』的错觉、削弱专注与深度阅读。

As is vividly depicted in the picture, someone is doing something, claiming that ...(用来客观交代画面人物与其言行,填入本题的男人与那句话)
Simple as it is, the drawing conveys a thought-provoking message that ...(用来把画面翻译成一句抽象寓意,填入本题『把浏览误当阅读』)

On one hand, ... ; on the other hand, ...(用来先承认表面好处再转出实质问题,填入『给人错觉』与『削弱深度』)

In my view, ... is a double-edged sword rather than ...(用来一句话表态并定性,填入本题对社交网站的判断)

三段功能分明并用衔接词串联 本文用 Simple as it is 从描述过渡到寓意、用 The implication ...
    用话题词替换空泛表达 本题可用 fragmented reading、attention span、in-depth reading、double-edged sword 等贴题表达替换『很好很坏』式空话;注意 a man is talking / notifications keep shortening 等处的主谓与单复数不要写错。
  • 通篇复述画面细节不挖寓意 反面示例:『There is a man and a woman. The man says he reads three hours a day and his favorite book is Facebook. There is a cup on the table.』——全在看图说话、没有观点。 The picture reveals that many people have mistaken scrolling through social media for real reading.
They destroy everything about reading.』——绝对化又无依据。 Social platforms feed us fragmented information that creates an illusion of reading, yet leaves little in our minds, which is exactly what the cartoon mocks.
Reading matters a lot. We should know reading is very important indeed.』——三句一个意思。 Genuine reading matters because it builds the sustained attention that fragmented browsing keeps eroding.
