Part Ⅲ Section C (1)
Directions: There  are 2 passages  in this section. Each passage  is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them  there  are four choices marked A),B),C)and D).You should decide  on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre.
Passage One
Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.
P1One of my bad habits is saying "busy" when people ask me how I'm doing. Sometimes it's because I actually am busy, but other times it's because that's what I think I'm supposed to say. That's what important people say. That's what people who get promoted say. But working long hours doesn't drive better results. Never taking a vacation won't lead to a promotion. So why are we so proud to talk about how busy we are all the time?

P2In 2016, researchers from Columbia, Harvard, and Georgetown conducted a study to figure it out. They found busy people are perceived to be of high status, and interestingly, these status attributions are heavily influenced by our own beliefs about social mobility. In other words, the more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard work, the more we tend to think that people who skip leisure and work all the time are of higher standing.

P3That's why we feel like we have to appear busy, and there's a real perception that if someone is knee-deep in meetings, emails, and stress, then they're probably a big deal. This culture of busyness is making it hard for employees to find work-life balance. According to a recent study, one in five highly engaged employees is at risk of burnout(精疲力竭).

P4Personally, I'm going to stop saying "busy" when people ask me how I am. It sounds self-righteous(自以为是的) and sets the wrong tone. Phrases like "I have limited access to email" and "I'll respond as soon as I get back" sound like you're being held against your will from working as opposed to making the most of your time off.

P5That's why we recently launched the Out of Office Email Generator, a free tool you can use before your next long weekend or trip. You can share loud and proud that you won't be checking email until you're back. Managers need to think twice about emailing their teams on the weekend and talking about how busy they are. Leaders should take time off themselves and encourage employees to do the same.

46.
What is a reason for the author to be in the habit of saying "busy" when asked how he is doing?
A)He just follows successful people's example.
B)He is actually proud to be fully occupied.
C)He thinks everyone should be devoted to work.
D)He believes busyness ensures accomplishments.

A(细节题)

题干 What is a reason for the author to be in the habit

主干是 What is a reason,后接 for 引导的逻辑主语 for the author to be in the habit of saying "busy",再用 when 状语 when asked how he is doing 限定情境。

P1

Sometimes it's because I actually am busy, but other times it's because that's what I think I'm supposed to say. That's what important people say. That's what people who get promoted say.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • That's what important people say. That's what people who get promoted sayfollows successful people's example

He just follows successful people's example

原文末尾反问 why are we so proud to talk about how busy we are 是带反思的反问,并非作者承认自己“为忙而自豪”,选项把反问当作者的真实态度,属张冠李戴。

47.
Why do we tend to think that busy people are of high status?
A)Our status can be attributed to our social mobility.
B)We hold the belief that hard work leads to success.
C)Our own opportunity for success never comes easily.
D)We find few people of high status have time for leisure.

B(细节题)

题干 Why do we tend to think that busy people are of high status

Why do we tend to think that busy people are of high status 中 think 后接 that 宾语从句 busy people are of high status。

P2

In other words, the more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard work, the more we tend to think that people who skip leisure and work all the time are of higher standing.

    • the more we believe that one has the opportunity for success based on hard workWe hold the belief that hard work leads to success

预判的“努力工作通向成功的信念”与 hold the belief that hard work leads to success 逐字对应,故锁定此项。

48.
What do we learn about the culture of busyness from a recent study?
A)It places employees in endless meetings, emails and stress.
B)It compels some 20% of employees to appear always busy.
C)It distorts many employees' belief of what a satisfying life is.
D)It does much harm to many busy employees' well-being.

D(细节题)

题干 What do we learn about the culture of busyness from a recent study

What do we learn about the culture of busyness from a recent study:主干 What do we learn, about 短语限定话题,from 短语点明信息来源。

P3

This culture of busyness is making it hard for employees to find work-life balance. According to a recent study, one in five highly engaged employees is at risk of burnout(精疲力竭).

meetings, emails and stress 出自上一段对“显得忙的人”的描写 knee-deep in meetings, emails, and stress,并非“近期研究”的结论;题问研究发现什么,此项把别处内容搬来,属张冠李戴。

原文 one in five(约20%)指的是“面临精疲力竭风险”的人,compels some 20% of employees to appear always busy 把这20%偷换成“被迫显得忙”,数据所指对象被改。

原文未提忙碌文化“扭曲了员工对满意生活的认知”;distorts…belief of what a satisfying life is 在文中找不到对应句,属无中生有。

  • D)✓ 正确
    • one in five highly engaged employees is at risk of burnoutIt does much harm to many busy employees' well-being

预判“危害员工身心”与 does much harm to many busy employees' well-being 吻合,故锁定此项。

49.
What do such utterances as "I have limited access to email" sound like according to the author?
A)One is too busy to check all emails in time.
B)One is opposed to the prevailing work culture.
C)One is forced by circumstances to stop working.
D)One is simply enjoying their time off work.

C(细节题)

题干 What do such utterances as … sound like according to the author

What do such utterances as "I have limited access to email" sound like according to the author:such…as 举例结构,sound like 是“听起来像”。注意 sound like 后省略了表语,正是要补的答案;according to the author 提示以作者原话为准。

P4

Phrases like "I have limited access to email" and "I'll respond as soon as I get back" sound like you're being held against your will from working as opposed to making the most of your time off.

    • you're being held against your will from workingOne is forced by circumstances to stop working

预判“被迫无法工作”与 forced by circumstances to stop working 吻合,故锁定此项。

50.
Why did the author and his colleagues launch the Out of Office Email Generator?
A)To enable busy employees to spend less time checking emails.
B)To ensure employees as well as employers truly have time off.
C)To stop managers from talking about how busy their teams usually are.
D)To encourage both employers and employees to answer emails promptly.

B(细节题)

题干 Why did the author and his colleagues launch the Out of Office Email Generator

Why did the author and his colleagues launch the Out of Office Email Generator:主干 Why did the author and his colleagues launch,宾语是专有工具名。

P5

That's why we recently launched the Out of Office Email Generator, a free tool you can use before your next long weekend or trip. You can share loud and proud that you won't be checking email until you're back. Managers need to think twice about emailing their teams on the weekend and talking about how busy they are. Leaders should take time off themselves and encourage employees to do the same.

    • You can share loud and proud that you won't be checking email until you're backTo ensure employees as well as employers truly have time off
    • Leaders should take time off themselves and encourage employees to do the sameemployers as well as employees

预判“让员工和雇主都真正休假”与 employees as well as employers truly have time off 完整对应、双方都覆盖,故锁定此项。

“别谈论团队多忙”只是原文对管理者诸多建议之一 talking about how busy they are,不是推出工具的总目的;stop managers from talking about how busy…
