Part Ⅲ Section C (1)
Directions: There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre.
Passage One
Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.
P1All living organisms on Earth are exposed to a 24-hour day-night cycle. This cycle is the reason why people rest at night and are active during the day. Consequently, all human body functions also follow this daily rhythm, and the timing of behaviors like exercise or food intake can significantly influence your health. For example, eating at night can lead to weight gain over time because food intake at night leads to increased fat storage.

P2Many drug targets in the body follow a 24-hour cycle, too. This means that the specific proteins a drug is designed to modify can react differently to the medicine over the course of a 24-hour time period. Because how the body responds to a drug can differ depending on the time it is taken, it logically follows that taking medicines at specific times could help increase their effectiveness and reduce unwanted side effects.

P3When doctors prescribe medicine for people, they rarely consider the best time to take it. There are two main reasons for that oversight. First, many physicians are not aware that some drugs work better during a specific time of the day. And second, most drugs have not been studied for possible different effects during a 24-hour cycle. Therefore, patients are directed to take most drugs during the morning or evening primarily to ensure compliance.

P4Over 50 years ago, researchers found that the cholesterol drug simvastatin is more effective at lowering cholesterol levels when taken at night rather than during the day. This is because the liver enzyme(酶) these drugs target is more active at night.

P5Taking medicine at the wrong time can even cause harm. My colleagues and I wondered whether midazolam, the most common sedative(镇静剂) used in surgical procedures worldwide, might interfere with the internal clock that protects the heart at night. Currently, there are no guidelines regarding when midazolam should be administered.

P6More research is needed to determine the best times to administer treatments for different diseases. I believe taking drug timing into account could help make treatments more effective and help more people worldwide.

46.
What do we learn from the passage about the timing of our behaviors?
A)It has a considerable impact on our health.
B)It confines us to a 24-hour day-night cycle.
C)It requires us to follow a particular rhythm.
D)It holds the key to all human body functions.

A(细节题)

What do we learn from the passage about ...

What do we learn from the passage about the timing of our behaviors?

P1

Consequently, all human body functions also follow this daily rhythm, and the timing of behaviors like exercise or food intake can significantly influence your health.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • can significantly influence your healthIt has a considerable impact on our health

It has a considerable impact on our health

It confines us to a 24-hour day-night cycle This cycle is the reason why people rest at night and are active during the day 相悖。

It requires us to follow a particular rhythm 说「行为时机要求我们遵循某节律」,但原文里「遵循节律」的主体是人体功能(all human body functions also follow this daily rhythm),并非由「行为时机」提出要求。

It holds the key to all human body functions 称行为时机「掌握着人体所有功能的关键」,原文只说人体功能遵循节律、行为时机影响健康,从未说时机决定一切功能,all 与 holds the key 属夸大。

47.
What does the author say about the proteins in our body?
A)They can modify the effects of medicines in different ways.
B)They can reduce unwanted side effects of certain medicines.
C)Their reaction to medicines changes during the day-night cycle.
D)Their design determines how differently they react to medicines.

C(细节题)

What does the author say about the proteins

What does the author say about the proteins in our body? 主干是「作者关于我们体内的蛋白质说了什么」,say about 后面的 the proteins in our body 是话题。

P2

This means that the specific proteins a drug is designed to modify can react differently to the medicine over the course of a 24-hour time period.

They can modify the effects of medicines in different ways 说「蛋白质改变药物的效果」,但原文是药物去作用(modify)蛋白质(the specific proteins a drug is designed to modify),施受关系正好相反。

They can reduce unwanted side effects of certain medicines 把「减少副作用」说成蛋白质的能力,可原文里减副作用的是「按特定时间服药」这一做法(taking medicines at specific times could help increase their effectiveness and reduce unwanted side effects),与蛋白质无关。

  • C)✓ 正确
    • can react differently to the medicine over the course of a 24-hour time periodTheir reaction to medicines changes during the day-night cycle

Their reaction to medicines changes during the day-night cycle

Their design determines how differently they react to medicines

48.
What do doctors do when prescribing medicine for people?
A)They give little thought to the time of taking it for maximum effect.
B)They rarely consider which medicine works better for which patient.
C)They tell patients its possible side effects during a period of 24 hours.
D)They tell patients to comply with the directions of drug manufacturers.

A(细节题)

What do doctors do when prescribing medicine

What do doctors do when prescribing medicine for people?

P3

When doctors prescribe medicine for people, they rarely consider the best time to take it.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • they rarely consider the best time to take itThey give little thought to the time of taking it for maximum effect

They give little thought to the time of taking it for maximum effect

They rarely consider which medicine works better for which patient

They tell patients its possible side effects during a period of 24 hours 说医生告知 24 小时内的副作用,原文讲的是药物未被研究其昼夜差异(most drugs have not been studied for possible different effects during a 24-hour cycle),并非医生告知副作用。

They tell patients to comply with the directions of drug manufacturers 说让病人遵从药厂说明,但原文 compliance 指病人遵从医嘱按时服药(patients are directed to take most drugs during the morning or evening primarily to ensure compliance),并未提 drug manufacturers。

49.
Why do doctors advise patients to take most drugs in the morning or in the evening?
A)To discourage them from making complaints.
B)To ensure they take the drugs as instructed.
C)To comply with new research findings strictly.
D)To guarantee the maximum effect of the drugs.

B(细节题)

Why do doctors advise ...

Why do doctors advise patients to take most drugs in the morning or in the evening? advise sb. to do 是「建议某人做某事」结构。

P3

Therefore, patients are directed to take most drugs during the morning or evening primarily to ensure compliance.

To discourage them from making complaints

    • to ensure complianceTo ensure they take the drugs as instructed

To ensure they take the drugs as instructed

To comply with new research findings strictly 说目的是严格遵循新研究成果,但原文恰恰指出多数药未做昼夜研究(most drugs have not been studied),医生让早晚服药并非依据研究,方向相反。

To guarantee the maximum effect of the drugs 说目的是保证药效最大,但全文论点正是医生没考虑增效时机(they rarely consider the best time to take it),早晚服药并非为了药效最大化,正好相反。

50.
What does the author suggest near the end of the passage?
A)Considering drug-taking timing when prescribing drugs for patients.
B)Making treatments less complex by taking drug timing into account.
C)Conducting more studies to find out the best timing for treating different diseases.
D)Finding out the most effective drugs for treating diseases through further research.

C(主旨题)

What does the author suggest near the end

What does the author suggest near the end of the passage?

Considering drug-taking timing when prescribing drugs for patients 是第三段对医生开药的观点延伸,而题干问的是 near the end 的建议;末段真正的呼吁是「做更多研究」,而非这条局部主张。

Making treatments less complex by taking drug timing into account 称考虑服药时机可让治疗「不那么复杂」,原文末段只说能让治疗更有效、惠及更多人(could help make treatments more effective and help more people worldwide),从未提 less complex。

  • C)✓ 正确
    • More research is needed to determine the best times to administer treatments for different diseasesConducting more studies to find out the best timing for treating different diseases

Conducting more studies to find out the best timing for treating different diseases

Finding out the most effective drugs for treating diseases through further research 说要研究「最有效的药物」,可末段研究的目标是「最佳给药时间」(the best times to administer treatments),全文谈的是时机而非药物本身,对象被偷换。
