Part III Section C (1)
Directions: There are 2 passages in this section. Each passage is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them there are four choices marked A), B), C) and D). You should decide on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre.
Passage One
Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.
P1To write his 2010 book, The 5-Factor World Diet, nutritionist Harley Pasternak traveled to the healthiest countries around the world to learn more about what made their meals extra nourishing.

P2He noted that Japanese people ate a wonderful variety of seaweeds, and that Chinese people tried to include at least five different colors in every meal. Pasternak also came away with some valuable observations about how different the North American way of life was, compared with many other countries.

P3For starters, Americans eat much bigger portions than people in other countries. "We don't prioritize eating seasonally or locally, and we also add lots of salt, sugar and thickening agents to our foods," explained Pasternak. Contrast that to the healthy Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets listed in Pasternak's book. They all seem to stick to the ethos(特质) of regional, seasonal produce.

P4For example, a traditional Mediterranean diet includes fruits, vegetables, whole grains, nuts and olive oil as the main components of nutritional intake. Fish, chicken and red wine make moderate appearances, while red meat, salt and sugar are used much less often. The benefits of a traditional Mediterranean diet have been studied since the 1970s, and researchers have found that living that olive oil life can help people lose weight, lower their heart disease risk and reverse diabetes.

P5Most other healthy eating cultures also make meals an event—say, multiple courses around the family table, or a glass or two of red wine at a long lunch—as opposed to hastily wolfing down handfuls of cereal above the kitchen sink and calling it dinner.

P6Each of the healthy eating cultures has its own unique feature. But Pasternak did take note of one unifying factor in all of the healthy societies he observed. "The only overlapping feature in most of these healthy countries is that they all walk way more than the average American," said Pasternak, "So really, regardless of what you're eating, if someone's walking four miles more than you each day, they're going to be a lot thinner and live a lot longer than you."

46.
What characterizes Japanese and Chinese foods?
A)Variety.
B)Flavor.
C)Color.
D)Naturalness.

  • A) 多样性。
  • B) 风味。
  • C) 色泽。
  • D) 天然性。
A(细节题)

题干 What characterizes Japanese and Chinese foods?

What characterizes Japanese and Chinese foods? 是标准的 what 主语疑问句:what 作主语,characterizes 作谓语,Japanese and Chinese foods 是宾语,结构平铺直叙,无陷阱。

P2

He noted that Japanese people ate a wonderful variety of seaweeds, and that Chinese people tried to include at least five different colors in every meal.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • a wonderful variety of seaweedsVariety
    • at least five different colors in every mealVariety

He noted that Japanese people ate a wonderful variety of seaweeds, and that Chinese people tried to include at least five different colors in every meal.

选项 Color 只对应 at least five different colors in every meal 这一半,根本不能解释 a wonderful variety of seaweeds——日本人吃海藻种类多与颜色无关;以局部冒充整体。

47.
What is typical of Americans in the way of eating?
A)They emphasize nutrition.
B)They tend to eat quite a lot.
C)They prioritize convenience.
D)They care about flavors.

B(细节题)

题干 What is typical of Americans in the way of eating?

题干主干是 what is typical of Americans,in the way of eating 是修饰 typical 的范围介词短语;结构平铺直叙,无陷阱。

P3

For starters, Americans eat much bigger portions than people in other countries.

We don't prioritize eating seasonally or locally, and we also add lots of salt, sugar and thickening agents to our foods

    • eat much bigger portionstend to eat quite a lot
    • than people in other countriestend to

They tend to eat quite a lot.

48.
What features are in Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets?
A)Fruits and vegetables.
B)Olive oil and red wine.
C)Seasonal local produce.
D)Unprocessed ingredients.

C(细节题)

题干 What features are in Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets?

What features are in Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets?:what features 作主语、are 系动词、in Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets 是表语介词短语,把范围限定在这三种饮食里;结构清晰,无陷阱。

P3

Contrast that to the healthy Mediterranean, Nordic and Okinawan diets listed in Pasternak's book. They all seem to stick to the ethos(特质) of regional, seasonal produce.

    • regional, seasonal produceSeasonal local produce

49.
What do people in most healthy eating cultures have in common?
A)They get the whole family to eat at a table.
B)They eat their meals regularly and punctually.
C)They consume plenty of cereal for breakfast.
D)They attach great importance to their meals.

D(细节题)

题干 What do people in most healthy eating cultures have in common?

What do people in most healthy eating cultures have in common?:what 作 have 的宾语前置,主语是 people in most healthy eating cultures;have…in common 是固定搭配"有共同点",结构无陷阱。

P5

Most other healthy eating cultures also make meals an event—say, multiple courses around the family table, or a glass or two of red wine at a long lunch—as opposed to hastily wolfing down handfuls of cereal above the kitchen sink and calling it dinner.

get the whole family to eat at a table 只对应 multiple courses around the family table 这一个例子,没覆盖另一例 a glass or two of red wine at a long lunch,更没覆盖"重视用餐"这个主旨;以一个例子冒充整段共性。

原文 P5 只说 long lunch(漫长的午餐),完全没有 regularly/punctually/on time 这类"规律/守时"的语义;选项 eat their meals regularly and punctually 在原文里无对应。

原文中 handfuls of cereal above the kitchen sink 是用来作"反例"的——讽刺美国人草率吃法的——而选项 consume plenty of cereal for breakfast 反而把这条反例当成健康文化的优点,方向南辕北辙。

  • D)✓ 正确
    • make meals an eventattach great importance to their meals

50.
Compared with the average American, people in healthy societies ___________.
A)walk at least 4 miles a day
B)do considerably more walking
C)pay more attention to body shape
D)consume a lot more organic food

B(细节题)

题干 Compared with the average American, people in healthy societies ___________.

Compared with the average American, people in healthy societies ___________. Compared with the average American 是过去分词短语作状语,逻辑主语是后面的 people in healthy societies;选项是句子谓语的延续,需保证主谓搭配自然。

P6

The only overlapping feature in most of these healthy countries is that they all walk way more than the average American.

原文 if someone's walking four miles more than you each day 中的 four miles 是 Pasternak 的进一步举例性数字,且是"多走 4 英里"(每天比对方多 4 英里),不是"至少走 4 英里";选项 walk at least 4 miles a day 把"多走的差值"偷换成"日行的总数",并加了原文没有的 at least。

  • B)✓ 正确
    • walk way more than the average Americando considerably more walking

    预判核心"走路远多于美国人"被 do considerably more walking 完整保留——比较级 more、程度副词 considerably(= 原文 way)、活动 walking,三层信息一一对应。

原文 they're going to be a lot thinner 是"会瘦很多"——这是走路多带来的结果,不是健康社会的人"在意身材"这一主观倾向;选项 pay more attention to body shape 是把客观结果错读成主观态度。
