Part III Section C (1)
Directions: There  are 2 passages  in this section. Each passage  is followed by some questions or unfinished statements. For each of them  there  are four choices marked A),B),C)and D).You should decide  on the best choice and mark the corresponding letter on Answer Sheet 2 with a single line through the centre.
Passage One
Questions 46 to 50 are based on the following passage.
P1Vegetarians would prefer not to be compelled to eat meat. Yet the reverse compulsion(强迫) is hidden in the proposals for a new plant-based "planetary diet." Nowhere is this more visible than in India.

P2Earlier this year, the EAT-Lancet Commission released its global report on nutrition and called for a global shift to a more plant-based diet and for "substantially reducing consumption of animal source foods." In countries like India, that call could become a tool to aggravate an already tense political situation and stress already undernourished populations.

P3The EAT report presumes that "traditional diets" in countries like India include little red meat, which might be consumed only on special occasions or as minor ingredients in mixed dishes.

P4In India, however, there is a vast difference between what people would wish to consume and what they have to consume because of innumerable barriers around class, religion, culture, cost, geography, etc. Policymakers in India have traditionally pushed for a cereal-heavy "vegetarian diet" on a meat-eating population as a way of providing the cheapest sources of food.

P5Currently, under an aggressive Hindu nationalist government, Muslims, Christians, disadvantaged classes and indigenous communities are being compelled to give up their traditional foods.

P6None of these concerns seem to have been appreciated by the EAT-Lancet Commission's representative, Brent Loken, who said "India has got such a great example" in sourcing protein from plants.

P7But how much of a model for the world is India's vegetarianism? In the Global Hunger Index 2019, the country ranks 102nd out of 117. Data from the National Family Health Survey indicate that only 10 percent of infants of 6 to 23 months are adequately fed.

P8Which is why calls for a plant-based diet modeled on India risk offering another whip with which to beat already vulnerable communities in developing countries.

P9A diet directed at the affluent West fails to recognize that in low-income countries undernourished children are known to benefit from the consumption of milk and other animal source foods, improving cognitive functions, while reducing the prevalence of nutritional deficiencies as well as mortality.

P10EAT-Lancet claimed its intention was to "spark conversations" among all Indian stakeholders. Yet vocal critics of the food processing industry and food fortification strategies have been left out of the debate. But the most conspicuous omission may well be the absence of India's farmers.

P11The government, however, seems to have given the report a thumbs-up. Rather than addressing chronic hunger and malnutrition through an improved access to wholesome and nutrient-dense foods, the government is opening the door for company-dependent solutions, ignoring the environmental and economic cost, which will destroy local food systems. It's a model full of danger for future generations.

46.
What is more visible in India than anywhere else according to the passage?
A)People's positive views on the proposals for a "planetary diet".
B)People's reluctance to be compelled to eat plant-based food.
C)People's preferences for the kind of food they consume.
D)People's unwillingness to give up their eating habits.

B(细节题)

What is more visible in India than anywhere else 用 what 直接问一个被作者点名的事实,无 infer、imply、main idea 这类信号词。

What is more visible in India;than anywhere else

P1

Vegetarians would prefer not to be compelled to eat meat. Yet the reverse compulsion is hidden in the proposals for a new plant-based "planetary diet." Nowhere is this more visible than in India.

positive views on the proposals

    • the reverse compulsion is hidden in the proposals for a new plant-based "planetary diet"People's reluctance to be compelled to eat plant-based food
    • Nowhere is this more visible than in IndiaPeople's reluctance to be compelled to eat plant-based food

People's reluctance to be compelled to eat plant-based food,完全对齐。

preferences for the kind of food they consume 说的是对所吃食物种类的偏好,是泛泛的口味话题;原文要点是被强迫,不是偏好,没有回答 more visible in India 的具体所指。

unwillingness to give up their eating habits 谈的是不愿放弃饮食习惯,原文 P1 只谈被反向强迫,并未在此处讨论放弃既有习惯;P5 虽出现 give up traditional foods,但与题干 more visible in India 这一焦点错位。

47.
What would the EAT-Lancet Commission's report do to many people in countries like India?
A)Radically change their dietary habits.
B)Keep them further away from politics.
C)Make them even more undernourished.
D)Substantially reduce their food choices.

C(细节题)

What would the EAT-Lancet Commission's report do to many people 用 what…do 直问报告对人群产生的具体影响,无推断信号词。

Q47 What would…do to many people 是询问主语对宾语造成的影响;would 表预测语气,是基于原文给出的虚拟后果,不是推断信号。

P2

In countries like India, that call could become a tool to aggravate an already tense political situation and stress already undernourished populations.

Radically change their dietary habits

Keep them further away from politics 说让他们远离政治,但原文 aggravate an already tense political situation 是加剧政治紧张,与让人远离政治方向相反。

  • C)✓ 正确
    • stress already undernourished populationsMake them even more undernourished

Make them even more undernourished,完全对齐。

Substantially reduce their food choices

48.
What do we learn from the passage about food consumption in India?
A)People's diet will not change due to the EAT-Lancet report.
B)Many people simply do not have access to foods they prefer.
C)There is a growing popularity of a cereal-heavy vegetarian diet.
D)Policymakers help remove the barriers to people's choice of food.

B(细节题)

What do we learn from the passage about food consumption in India

What do we learn from the passage;about food consumption in India

P4

In India, however, there is a vast difference between what people would wish to consume and what they have to consume because of innumerable barriers around class, religion, culture, cost, geography, etc.

People's diet will not change due to the EAT-Lancet report 谈饮食不会因 EAT 报告而改变。

    • there is a vast difference between what people would wish to consume and what they have to consumeMany people simply do not have access to foods they prefer
    • because of innumerable barriers around class, religion, culture, cost, geography, etcMany people simply do not have access to foods they prefer

预判得到的想吃的不等于能吃的,等于 do not have access to foods they prefer,完全对齐。

growing popularity of a cereal-heavy vegetarian diet Policymakers in India have traditionally pushed for a cereal-heavy

Policymakers help remove the barriers to people's choice of food

49.
What does the passage say about a plant-based diet modeled on India?
A)It may benefit populations whose traditional diet is meat-based.
B)It may be another blow to the economy in developing countries.
C)It may help narrow the gap between the rich and poor countries.
D)It may worsen the nourishment problem in low-income countries.

D(细节题)

What does the passage say about a plant-based diet modeled on India 用 say about 问文章对某概念明说了什么,按细节题处理。

What does the passage say;about a plant-based diet modeled on India 是话题限定语,过去分词短语 modeled on India 后置修饰 diet。

P8

Which is why calls for a plant-based diet modeled on India risk offering another whip with which to beat already vulnerable communities in developing countries.

    benefit populations whose traditional diet is meat-based

another blow to the economy in developing countries

narrow the gap between the rich and poor countries

    • another whip with which to beat already vulnerable communities in developing countriesworsen the nourishment problem in low-income countries
    • undernourished children are known to benefit from the consumption of milk and other animal source foodsworsen the nourishment problem in low-income countries

预判得到的加重弱势国家营养不良,等于 worsen the nourishment problem in low-income countries,完全对齐。

50.
How does the Indian government respond to the EAT-Lancet Commission's proposals?
A)It accepts them at the expense of the long-term interests of its people.
B)It intends them to spark conversations among all Indian stakeholders.
C)It gives them approval regardless of opposition from nutrition experts.
D)It welcomes them as a tool to address chronic hunger and malnutrition.

A(细节题)

How does the Indian government respond to the EAT-Lancet Commission's proposals

How does the Indian government respond;to the EAT-Lancet Commission's proposals 是 respond 的介宾搭配。

P11

The government, however, seems to have given the report a thumbs-up. Rather than addressing chronic hunger and malnutrition through an improved access to wholesome and nutrient-dense foods, the government is opening the door for company-dependent solutions, ignoring the environmental and economic cost, which will destroy local food systems. It's a model full of danger for future generations.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • given the report a thumbs-upIt accepts them
    • Rather than addressing chronic hunger and malnutrition through an improved access to wholesome and nutrient-dense foods, the government is opening the door for company-dependent solutions, ignoring the environmental and economic cost, which will destroy local food systemsat the expense of the long-term interests of its people

It accepts them at the expense of the long-term interests of its people,完全对齐。

intends them to spark conversations 把 EAT-Lancet claimed its intention was to

regardless of opposition from nutrition experts 原文 P10 提到的是被排除在外的 vocal critics of the food processing industry and food fortification strategies 和 India's farmers,并未明确说营养专家反对,且更没有说政府是不顾这些反对而通过。

welcomes them as a tool to address chronic hunger and malnutrition Rather than addressing chronic hunger and malnutrition
