Imagine sitting down to a big dinner: a massive steak, a large portion of fried potatoes, and cake for dessert. After eating so much, you should be too full to eat another bite. But some people experience a powerful urge to keep eating, even after   26   in a huge meal, a behavior that makes little sense, as most adults are well-versed in the dangers of obesity, which researchers have shown correlates with   27   health issues and is even linked to increased   28   risk. But some people still keep eating long after they should stop, a phenomenon Dr. Susan Thompson calls "insatiable(永不满足的) hunger." It is characterized by two main   29   : not being satisfied by eating, and having a desire to stay sedentary(久坐不动的).

This is at   30   with how humans are biologically programmed. When there was a great deal of food available, ancient people would gorge on calories; this massive calorie intake was accompanied by an urge to get active. Humans were also programmed for something called "compensation," which is the brain's   31   mechanism for preventing the accumulation of excess weight. With compensation, if you eat one large meal in the morning, you are naturally   32   to eat less for the rest of the day.

But recent studies show that 70% of American adults have lost the ability to naturally compensate for the calories they consume; worse   33   , a significant number of them report   34   hunger halfway through an eating session, but, by the end of the meal, they feel the same or higher levels of hunger than when they sat down. Dr. Thompson argues that the main cause of this phenomenon is the modern diet, which is   35   of food high in sugar, carbohydrates and calories.

文章围绕一种叫 "insatiable(永不满足的) hunger." 的现象展开:一些人吃完大餐仍想继续吃,背后既与人类古老的“补偿”机制("compensation," which is the brain's __(31)__ mechanism for preventing the accumulation of excess weight.)失灵有关,也与 the modern diet, which is __(35)__ of food high in sugar, carbohydrates and calories.

conceded 与 comprised 同为 -ed 结尾、长得像,最像 the modern diet, which is __(35)__ of food high in sugar, carbohydrates and calories. 的答案;但 concede 是“承认/让步”,无 be conceded of 搭配,识破靠“of 必须配 comprise/compose”。

  • D) conservation

30 This is at __(30)__ with how humans are biologically programmed.

far 同为副词,且能修饰比较级,看着像 worse __(33)__, a significant number of them report 的答案;但 far 必须前置成 far worse,不能后置成 worse far,位置一对就识破。

  • L) plights

It is characterized by two main __(29)__ 处冒充答案;但它感情色彩太重(悲剧化),且 characterized by plights 不是地道搭配,识破靠“色彩+搭配”。

  • O) unmatchable

27 correlates with __(27)__ health issues、31 the brain's __(31)__ mechanism、32 you are naturally __(32)__ to eat less 三处都可能伪装成形容词答案;但它是褒义评价词(“无与伦比”),与中性/客观语域不合,且不接 to do,识破靠“色彩+句型”。
