Text 1
P1A new study suggests that contrary to most surveys, people are actually more stressed at home than at work. Researchers measured people's cortisol, which is a stress marker, while they were at work and while they were at home and found it higher at what is supposed to be a place of refuge.

P2"Further contradicting conventional wisdom, we found that women as well as men have lower levels of stress at work than at home," writes one of the researchers, Sarah Damaske. In fact women even say they feel better at work, she notes. "It is men, not women, who report being happier at home than at work." Another surprise is that the findings hold true for both those with children and without, but more so for nonparents. This is why people who work outside the home have better health.

P3What the study doesn't measure is whether people are still doing work when they're at home, whether it is household work or work brought home from the office. For many men, the end of the workday is a time to kick back. For women who stay home, they never get to leave the office. And for women who work outside the home, they often are playing catch-up with household tasks. With the blurring of roles, and the fact that the home front lags well behind the workplace in making adjustments for working women, it's not surprising that women are more stressed at home.

P4But it's not just a gender thing. At work, people pretty much know what they're supposed to be doing: working, making money, doing the tasks they have to do in order to draw an income. The bargain is very pure: Employee puts in hours of physical or mental labor and employee draws out life-sustaining moola.

P5On the home front, however, people have no such clarity. Rare is the household in which the division of labor is so clinically and methodically laid out. There are a lot of tasks to be done, there are inadequate rewards for most of them. Your home colleagues – your family – have no clear rewards for their labor; they need to be talked into it, or if they're teenagers, threatened with complete removal of all electronic devices. Plus, they're your family. You cannot fire your family. You never really get to go home from home.

P6So it's not surprising that people are more stressed at home. Not only are the tasks apparently infinite, the co-workers are much harder to motivate.

21.
According to Paragraph 1, most previous surveys found that home____.
[ A ]offered greater relaxation than the workplace
[ B ]was an ideal place for stress measurement
[ C ]generated more stress than the workplace
[ D ]was an unrealistic place for relaxation

A(细节题)

题干 According to Paragraph 1, most previous surveys found that home____ 限定段落 + 询问客观陈述,无 infer/imply 等推断信号。

P1

A new study suggests that contrary to most surveys, people are actually more stressed at home than at work.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • a place of refugeoffered greater relaxation than the workplace
    • contrary to most surveys, people are actually more stressed at home than at workoffered greater relaxation than the workplace

预判“家比职场更放松”完全等价于 offered greater relaxation than the workplace,且 a place of refuge 的提示进一步坐实——A 直接命中预判。

generated more stress than the workplace 恰恰是新研究的结论,而非 most previous surveys 的旧观点;考生若把“新结论”误当成“旧调查发现”就会误选。

22.
According to Damaske, who are likely to be the happiest at home?
[ A ]Working mothers.
[ B ]Childless husbands.
[ C ]Working fathers.
[ D ]Childless wives.

B(细节题)

题干 who are likely to be the happiest at home 直接问“谁”,是对原文一句话的客观转述。

主语 who、谓语 are likely to be、表语 the happiest at home;likely to be 是惯用情态,不削弱“最开心”的最高级语义,无理解陷阱。

P2

It is men, not women, who report being happier at home than at work. Another surprise is that the findings hold true for both those with children and without, but more so for nonparents.

    Working mothers 既不是 men(性别相反),也不是 nonparents(“母亲”必然有娃),完全违背原文两层条件。

  • B)✓ 正确
    • It is men, not women, who report being happier at home than at workChildless husbands.
    • but more so for nonparentsChildless

    预判“无孩男性”= men(It is men, not women)+ nonparents(but more so for nonparents),完全等价于 Childless husbands——两条件叠加唯一指向 B。

Working fathers 性别对(fathers=men),但 fathers 必然是 parents,与 but more so for nonparents 的限定相反——更开心的是 nonparents,而不是已经做父亲的。

It is men, not women

23.
The blurring of working women's roles refers to the fact that____.
[ A ]their home is also a place for kicking back
[ B ]they are both bread winners and housewives
[ C ]there is often much housework left behind
[ D ]it is difficult for them to leave their office

B(词义句意题)

题干 refers to the fact that____ 要求解释 the blurring 这一特定短语在文中的含义。

主干 The blurring of working women's roles refers to the fact that____,that 引导同位语从句解释 the fact 的具体内容,即“角色模糊”具体指什么事实。

P3

For women who work outside the home, they often are playing catch-up with household tasks. With the blurring of roles, and the fact that the home front lags well behind the workplace in making adjustments for working women, it's not surprising that women are more stressed at home.

their home is also a place for kicking back 描述的是男性:“kick back”(放松)在 For many men, the end of the workday is a time to kick back

    • For women who work outside the homebread winners
    • they often are playing catch-up with household taskshousewives

With the blurring of roles

there is often much housework left behind

it is difficult for them to leave their office For women who stay home, they never get to leave the office——指“留在家里的女性”把家当作 office、从不下班;而题干问的是 working women(在外工作的女性),群体错位。

24.
The word "moola" (Line 4, Para. 4) most probably means____.
[ A ]skills
[ B ]energy
[ C ]earnings
[ D ]nutrition

  • A) 技能
  • B) 精力
  • C) 收入
  • D) 营养
C(词义句意题)

The word "moola" (Line 4, Para. 4) most probably means____,括号内是位置说明,主干就是 The word X means Y,无任何句法陷阱。

P4

The bargain is very pure: Employee puts in hours of physical or mental labor and employee draws out life-sustaining moola.

energy 是付出方而非回报方:员工付出 physical or mental labor 实际上就是付出 energy, draws out energy 与原文方向相反。

  • C)✓ 正确
    • life-sustaining moolaearnings
    • Employee puts in hours of physical or mental labor and employee draws out life-sustaining moolaearnings

25.
The home front differs from the workplace in that____.
[ A ]family labor is often adequately rewarded
[ B ]home is hardly a cozier working environment
[ C ]household tasks are generally more motivating
[ D ]division of labor at home is seldom clear-cut

D(细节题)

题干 The home front differs from the workplace in that____ 询问两者具体差异,属于客观事实题。

主干 The home front differs from the workplace in that____,in that

P5

On the home front, however, people have no such clarity. Rare is the household in which the division of labor is so clinically and methodically laid out.

family labor is often adequately rewarded 与原文 there are inadequate rewards for most of them、no clear rewards for their labor 直接矛盾——原文明说回报“不充分”,选项硬说“得到充分回报”。

home is hardly a cozier working environment

household tasks are generally more motivating 与 the co-workers are much harder to motivate 及 they need to be talked into it 反向——原文说家务里的“同事”(家人)很难被激励,选项却把家务说成“更有激励性”。

  • D)✓ 正确
    • Rare is the household in which the division of labor is so clinically and methodically laid outdivision of labor at home is seldom clear-cut
    • no such clarityseldom clear-cut

预判“家中分工不清晰”完全等价于 division of labor at home is seldom clear-cut,倒装句拆平 + 同义替换两步即可锁定 D。
