Text 2
P1A new survey by Harvard University finds more than two-thirds of young Americans disapprove of President Trump's use of Twitter. The implication is that Millennials prefer news from the White House to be filtered through other sources, not a president's social media platform.

P2Most Americans rely on social media to check daily headlines. Yet as distrust has risen toward all media, people may be starting to beef up their media literacy skills. Such a trend is badly needed. During the 2016 presidential campaign, nearly a quarter of web content shared by Twitter users in the politically critical state of Michigan was fake news, according to the University of Oxford. And a survey conducted for BuzzFeed News found 44 percent of Facebook users rarely or never trust news from the media giant.

P3Young people who are digital natives are indeed becoming more skillful at separating fact from fiction in cyberspace. A Knight Foundation focus-group survey of young people between ages 14 and 24 found they use "distributed trust" to verify stories. They cross-check sources and prefer news from different perspectives – especially those that are open about any bias. "Many young people assume a great deal of personal responsibility for educating themselves and actively seeking out opposing viewpoints," the survey concluded.

P4Such active research can have another effect. A 2014 survey conducted in Australia, Britain, and the United States by the University of Wisconsin-Madison found that young people's reliance on social media led to greater political engagement.

P5Social media allows users to experience news events more intimately and immediately while also permitting them to re-share news as a projection of their values and interests. This forces users to be more conscious of their role in passing along information. A survey by Barna research group found the top reason given by Americans for the fake news phenomenon is "reader error," more so than made-up stories or factual mistakes in reporting. About a third say the problem of fake news lies in "misinterpretation or exaggeration of actual news" via social media. In other words, the choice to share news on social media may be the heart of the issue. "This indicates there is a real personal responsibility in counteracting this problem," says Roxanne Stone, editor in chief at Barna Group.

P6So when young people are critical of an over-tweeting president, they reveal a mental discipline in thinking skills – and in their choices on when to share on social media.

26.
According to Paragraphs 1 and 2, many young Americans cast doubts on____
[ A ]the justification of the news-filtering practice.
[ B ]people's preference for social media platforms.
[ C ]the administration's ability to handle information.
[ D ]social media as a reliable source of news.

D(细节题)

题干主干 young Americans cast doubts on____,cast doubts on 是固定搭配(对……

P1

The implication is that Millennials prefer news from the White House to be filtered through other sources, not a president's social media platform.

    • Millennials prefer news from the White House to be filtered through other sources, not a president's social media platformsocial media as a reliable source of news
    • as distrust has risen toward all mediasocial media as a reliable source of news

预判的核心"怀疑社媒作新闻来源"与 social media as a reliable source of news 字面对位,是定位句两端意思的最干净改写。

27.
The phrase "beef up" (Line 2, Para. 2) is closest in meaning to____
[ A ]sharpen.
[ B ]define.
[ C ]boast.
[ D ]share.

  • A) 加强
  • B) 界定
  • C) 吹嘘
  • D) 分享
A(词义句意题)

题干 The phrase "beef up" (Line 2, Para.

The phrase "beef up" (Line 2, Para. 2) is closest in meaning to____

P2

Yet as distrust has risen toward all media, people may be starting to beef up their media literacy skills.

  • A)✓ 正确
    • beef up their media literacy skillssharpen

28.
According to the Knight Foundation survey, young people____
[ A ]tend to voice their opinions in cyberspace.
[ B ]verify news by referring to diverse sources.
[ C ]have a strong sense of responsibility.
[ D ]like to exchange views on "distributed trust".

B(细节题)

题干 According to the Knight Foundation survey, young people____ 问该调查发现年轻人做了什么,是对调查结论的事实提取。

P3

They cross-check sources and prefer news from different perspectives – especially those that are open about any bias.

    • They cross-check sources and prefer news from different perspectivesverify news by referring to diverse sources
    • they use "distributed trust" to verify storiesverify news by referring to diverse sources

Many young people assume a great deal of personal responsibility for educating themselves

29.
The Barna survey found that a main cause for the fake news problem is____
[ A ]readers' outdated values.
[ B ]journalists' biased reporting.
[ C ]readers' misinterpretation.
[ D ]journalists' made-up stories.

Barna

C(细节题)

题干 The Barna survey found that a main cause for the fake news problem is____ 是对该调查发现的归因结论的事实提取。

P5

A survey by Barna research group found the top reason given by Americans for the fake news phenomenon is "reader error," more so than made-up stories or factual mistakes in reporting. About a third say the problem of fake news lies in "misinterpretation or exaggeration of actual news" via social media.

原文明说 reader error 的权重 more so than made-up stories or factual mistakes in reporting——即"超过"了记者层面的错误;B 把次要因素当主要原因,方向反了。

  • C)✓ 正确
    • the top reason given by Americans for the fake news phenomenon is "reader error,"readers' misinterpretation
    • misinterpretation or exaggeration of actual newsreaders' misinterpretation

    原文中 made-up stories(编造的新闻)正是 top reason 用 more so than 否定掉的"次要因素";D 把它当成主要原因,与原文比较关系正相反。

30.
Which of the following would be the best title for the text?
[ A ]A Rise in Critical Skills for Sharing News Online.
[ B ]A Counteraction Against the Over-tweeting Trend.
[ C ]The Accumulation of Mutual Trust on Social Media.
[ D ]The Platforms for Projection of Personal Interests.

A(主旨题)

Which of the following would be the best title for the text?,which 引导的特殊疑问句,would be 虚拟语气表"最适合",无陷阱。

  • A)✓ 正确
    • they reveal a mental discipline in thinking skills – and in their choices on when to share on social mediaA Rise in Critical Skills for Sharing News Online
    • beef up their media literacy skillsA Rise in Critical Skills for Sharing News Online

    A Counteraction Against the Over-tweeting Trend

The Accumulation of Mutual Trust on Social Media 暗示"信任在累积";全文恰恰说 distrust has risen toward all media 与 44 percent of Facebook users rarely or never trust news——是不信任在上升,不是信任在累积。

The Platforms for Projection of Personal Interests 只对位 P5 中 re-share news as a projection of their values and interests 的局部表述,且把它从论据扭曲为主旨;全文主题不是"平台供个人投射利益",而是"年轻人的批判性/责任"。
